Esta semana se sintió la solidaridad con Katherine Martínez Medina, joven viequense, activista y estudiante-atleta, en su cita de vista preliminar por dos cargos criminales relacionados con su participación en una protesta que impidió la subasta de 10 terrenos en Vieques el 6 de julio pasado.
La abogada María Soledad Sáez de la Sociedad para la Asistencia Legal (SAL) informó que se están buscando soluciones alternativas a través de conversaciones, y la nueva fecha de la vista se ha pospuesto para el 30 de octubre. Más de 25 organizaciones se unieron al manifiesto que destaca que “Vieques es nuestra CASA, NUESTRA CASA NO SE VENDE, SE DEFIENDE”.
Consideramos este proceso injusto y una criminalización de la protesta por el acceso a la vivienda y la permanencia de la comunidad de Vieques. ¡Continuemos apoyando a Katherine y la lucha del pueblo de Vieques!

Solidarity was felt this week with Katherine Martinez Medina, young Vieques activist and student-athlete, at her preliminary hearing date for two criminal charges related to her participation in a protest that prevented the auction of 10 pieces of land in Vieques last July 6.
Attorney María Soledad Sáez of the Legal Aid Society (SAL) reported that alternative solutions are being sought through talks, and the new hearing date has been postponed to Oct. 30. More than 25 organizations joined the manifesto that highlights that “Vieques is our HOME, OUR HOME IS NOT FOR SALE, IT IS DEFENDED”.
We consider this process unjust and a criminalization of the protest for access to housing and permanence of the Vieques community. Let’s continue supporting Katherine and the struggle of the people of Vieques!
