In the past, we have hosted workshops, artbuilds, resident artists, community events and performances at Casa Taller. We have been rebuilding since the building suffered a fire in November 2021. After our people are rehoused we will begin again to imagine new creative programming in the space. We have envisioned our space to include adequate spaces to support our current projects: a recording studio, art workshop/studio, artist residencies, permaculture garden project, and housing for working class artists who are part of our project.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type="normal"][vc_column_text]En octubre de 2020, AgitArte adquirió una casa multifamiliar en Roxbury, MA, en asociación con dos residentes de clase trabajadora de Boston con la visión de asegurar una vivienda asequible y un espacio de trabajo como modo de contrarrestar el mercado inmobiliario especulativo y el aburguesamiento en el barrio. Desde que el edificio sufrió un incendio en noviembre de 2021 hemos estado reconstruyendo. Una vez que nuestra gente esté realojada, empezaremos de nuevo a imaginar una nueva programación creativa en el espacio. We produce original artwork, posters, graphics, videos, a podcast and publications. Nearly all of our artwork and popular education materials are available for free download on our website: agitarte.org/artwork-for-download. This program also includes publication projects created/co-created by AgitArte. Publications enable us to share the agitational work of AgitArte and Papel Machete with broader audiences. Since 2016 we have produced several publications and popular education materials that contest dominant narratives and share stories and political analysis about issues oppressing working class people, including the book, platform and now podcast When We Fight, We Win!, co-created with Greg Jobin-Leeds. Add to this the struggles that we have been waging since before Hurricane María and that we continue fighting against a corrupt and illegitimate government.   THE WAY TO SURVIVE HAS BEEN THROUGH COLLECTIVE ORGANIZATION AND SOLIDARITY NETWORKS OF MUTUAL SUPPORT. DESPITE THE LIMITATIONS OF SOCIAL DISTANCING, WE DO NOT FORGET EACH OTHER. WE CONTINUE TO ORGANIZE AND MOBILIZE.   After the arrival of the COVID-19 crisis, AgitArte reactivated and continued mutual aid efforts from Hurricane María and the recent earthquakes in Puerto Rico. Understanding that under U.S. colonization and late stage capitalism, our people will continue to be disproportionately impacted by natural and political disasters, we have developed a Mutual Aid & Cultural Solidarity Program to continue supporting our community, paying our artists and organizers, and meeting immediate needs on the ground. Radical theater and puppetry collective, Papel Machete is a model  of this program.   Since its founding in 2006, Papel Machete has been a laboratory for disruptive storytelling projects using papier-mâché as a medium and varying forms of ancestral, pre-cinematic narrative forms like toy theater, cantastoria, shadow theater, table-top puppetry, humanettes, cut-outs, masks, and giant puppets. A través de este programa, ampliamos nuestros recursos como organización sin fines de lucro a grupos y colectivos de organización cultural de base y militantes que luchan por la liberación en los Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico. Papel Machete, un colectivo radical de teatro de títeres, es un modelo de este programa. Desde su fundación en 2006, el Papel Machete ha sido un laboratorio para proyectos de narración disruptiva que utilizan papier-mâché como medio y diversas formas de narración ancestral pre-cinemática como toy theater, cantastoria, el teatro de sombras, los títeres de mesa, las humanetas, los recortes, las máscaras y los títeres gigantes. The possibility of more workshop space has promoted the establishment of new goals, reinforced existing creative projects, and strengthens our ties with the Santurce community through the development of new projects that have allowed us to continue to collectively contribute to our social liberation. This space functions as an artist live/work space and cultural organizing hub. We offer workshops, art builds and community events, and host guest and resident artists from around the world. After Hurricane María, Casa Taller provided housing, food, and communication support to the Santurce community, as well as receiving aid from the diaspora and redistributing it through the network fo Centros de Apoyo Mutuo - CAMs (mutual Aid Centers). Casa Taller Cangrejera is directed by AgitArte's Co-Directors, Sugeily Rodríguez Lebrón and Jorge Díaz Ortiz.  Both Jorge and Sugeily are active members of Papel Machete. Together, they are responsible for the coordination and implementation of projects at Casa Taller and other proposals and initiatives that arise from individuals or groups that are consonant with the vision and mission of AgitArte, and comprehensively strengthen our community. Aside from serving as a space for creative development of our artists, Casa Taller is also a space of resistance and collective liberation through popular education.
